As you may have seen in the news, PowerSchool has reported that they suffered a recent data breach.  They have communicated directly with us at MBIT and indicate that our data is not affected by the breach.  We will be putting the following information on our website.  If asked about the PowerSchool issue, please refer folks to our website.

Middle Bucks Institute of Technology Community,

On January 7th, our student information system platform (PowerSchool) announced they were subjected to a data breach.  At this time, we have no evidence to suggest that MBIT information was affected by this issue.  Additionally, PowerSchool provided the following statement: 

"While this incident affected certain PowerSchool Student Information System customers, our thorough forensic investigation has confirmed that [MBIT]’s data was not impacted. To note, our data analysis remains ongoing, and should our findings change, we will notify you in accordance with applicable laws and regulations."

This is an opportunity to remind users of the importance of cybersecurity and awareness, including the following: 

• Check that your private and professional passwords are different and not a common combination of letters and numbers. 
• Consider a password that is complex, such as a sentence, that you can remember but would otherwise be hard to predict. 
• Exercise extreme caution before you share any personal information to an email or text request.  The most recent phishing emails in MBIT have included fake emails from phony, but realistic looking staff addresses to asking for personal emails and/or phone numbers.  When in doubt - don't share your information.
• MBIT continues to prioritize cyber safety across all of our systems and encourages you to contact your an administrator or technology support personnel with any questions.
