COLLISION REPAIR TECHNOLOGY

CIP Code: 47.0603This nationally recognized Automotive Service Excellence/National Automotive Training Education Foundation (ASE/NATEF) accredited instructional program prepares students to perform: structural analysis and damage repair, non-structural analysis and damage repair, mechanical and electrical components, plastics and adhesives, and painting and refinishing. Furthermore, this program utilizes the industry standard I-CAR curriculum. The Collision Repair Technology program has also been recognized by the Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Association (MVMA) Advisory Council and the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE). The program prepares students to perform various duties from repairing small dents to rebuilding the bodies of wrecked or damaged vehicles made of both Steel and Aluminum metals. Students learn industry relevant skills including: examining damaged vehicles and estimating costs of repairs, removal, repair, and replacement of body panels, accessories, electrical and hydraulic devices, grills, trim, automotive glass, and unibody straightening. Refinishing processes and spray painting techniques are taught in a controlled-atmosphere downdraft spray booth according to industry standards. Waterborne paint technology is taught as part of the industry’s efforts to be more environmentally friendly. Students will participate in a shadowing experience with Thompson Collision Center and will be prepared to enter the auto body and collision industry as entry-level technicians or pursue an associate or baccalaureate degree in collision related fields, including automotive restoration technology.T
